Our purpose shines in different shades throughout our given days of life. And everyone, everyone has their time to shine. Sometimes it's just a matter of choice to follow that spiritual, intuitive purpose and sometimes environmental circumstances discourage, distract, and blind us from purpose. There are missing pages and even Chapters in life that cause the self to question their own life and existence. This job pays well, but my heart is for teaching. My mother chose my purpose to work as a housekeeper for our family business or having children made my small photo business passion not a possibility.
Purpose has a fighting chance when following the heart rather than societal norms and pressure. Whether it's family, a professional role, an advocate, an educator, or a life of ministry-purpose creates an undeniable feeling of satisfaction Mentally, emotionally, and even physically. It's a blessing to have that consistent purpose of a lifetime with miraculous confirmations. There are truly inspiring people who lead us to believe in our purpose no matter what challenges they may face.
Living and breathing for something you truly care about does not just benefit you rather it benefits everyone around you. People gravitate towards this light that is now shining inside. Your potential is recognized rather than being hidden by something you may never have truly desired. Family, friends, staff, and your community might not agree with a change in lifestyle that may be simple or drastic. They might think that you aren't smart to choose a purpose that will not financially benefit. But they might also be curious about where that shining light comes from and how they make a choice towards their own life purpose.
In my life, a God given purpose came at the age of ten years old. Throughout my life, my world was filled with new friends, new staff, new supervisors, classmates, and clients. Whenever I was around people, I felt completely alive-eager to help, eager to listen, and eager to give my time. I had to pursue my education with this incredible love for people and understand why they think, feel, and behave the way they do. No matter what someone could say, I knew in my heart that my spiritual existence was to serve others. There were times of question, confusion, disenchantment, frustration, annoyance, but with thankfulness-my purpose always resurfaced. It always does with faith, awareness, identification to feelings, and confirmations. Seeds of purpose are planted within us and we always need to remind ourselves of their presence.

With feedback all cultures and types of people traveling, clients in the states, students abroad, families, kids, and incredible NGOs-the consistent confirmation has been a signs that this IS the life I am meant to live. Perhaps my purpose has not lead to the financial success that people desire.
Everyone starts somewhere and a purpose creates the most rewarding sense of satisfaction and "success." The human interaction teaching, listening, sharing, enlightening-it cannot be replaced with a computer. To consistently feel rewarded, it leaves imprints on the heart attaching these moments with memories with feelings of purpose and intention. The act of "helping" has a significant of depth for a therapist.
With my own spiritual base, my heart spills over with such hope, joy, love, laughter, and passion for the well being of Linda-the amazing mother and solo traveler, the street kids in Mumbai, the mother of eight children in Belize, the family suffering death and violence in Los Angeles, the boy crying everyday to live with his mother, the 17 year old with Mental retardation, the homeless woman waiting for my visit, the elderly woman and her lifetime of memories. It's a never ending list with experiences that make me stronger, wiser, and happier from all different angles. People grow with my spirit and I always grow with their interaction and their admirable strength and resilience.
While our clients are suppose to learn from a therapists' expertise, most are unaware to the fact that the client's are doing all the teaching. They contribute to our knowledge, experiential learning, and personal growth giving us the truth about the reality of themselves and the world. If we closely turn into these stories, find different meaning each time, and feel whole within our being. That is where I am suppose to be and the therapists around me.
