Youtube Sensation- Work for It

12/15/2015

Nowadays there are all kinds of definitions to the word "work" "fame," and "success.
Without spending years and years pursuing an education or mastering your gifts whether being a doctor, a teacher, restaurant owner, etc; one can build their internet success by superman/woman networking and making a brand for themselves through youtube.
Youtube has become a platform to allow the talented, the awkward, the funny, the skilled, the singers, the actors, the dancers- to all have a space where they can share their ideas, opinions, intelligence, humor, religion, music and more with the world.
In other worlds, Youtube has changed the lives of many people for the better by serving as not only a networking platform, but a full-time career.
Youtube has become an employer for those who make videos for a living and those, i.e. Jenna Marbles and Casey Neistat who make videos daily and get paid based off their views and success of their videos. While people can make the choice to continue their job and follow their educational track, others immerse themselves into the world of You tube

From someone who is entering the You tube world with her own channel, it now comes to my attention how much work it takes to start a channel. Many people think, "Oh what an easy life sitting back and making videos for a living." To be quite honest, I was one of those people with envy of these people traveling the world, kids playing xbox, karaoke videos, and getting paid. It didn't quite make sense to me until I realized that "Youtube makes You work for It." It's not about just making a video rather it's about what is behind the scenes of Making a video.

There are about fifty different elements contributing to a successful video and it usually involves building subscribers, contributing to community and posting on channels, making videos appeal to audience consistently, and most importantly editing the video. Some may be more of an expert at editing, but most of the people I know have worked hard to learn how to properly do it and even when you learn to do it. It still takes a significant amount of time editing a 20 minute video. It's important to give props to those successful youtubers who have excellent videos because their editing is superb and keeps your attention. A ammateur video can be easily spotted and most likely is not leading to You Tube being your employer.

Even to make a blog post, it takes time, but constantly keeping up with social networking, promoting, and building your network-takes a lot of work. Some great Youtube travelers mention that they work on their channel or blog everyday-all day and it's a "neverending process." While it seems hard to believe that this "Youtube"video making world can become a 9-5 job, I am writing to confirm that it definitely can be. It's an ongoing job that doesn't even end at 5pm! I give such credit to all the hardworking travelers who are doing a fantastic job with their creative videos, posts, and writing. I hope to be soon moving past the blog world and into the Youtube world.

The Visual Era

11/11/2015

Hi Friends!
My sincere apologies for my long absence. I am preparing for my next trip and life move across the world! I have been definitely cheating you and my mind because I am writing to you everyday in my head, but we know that sadly doesn't count!

As I prepare for my next adventures, I think about the best way to communicate with everyone,as I am currently failing with social media. I hope to improve with lots of reading, asking questions, trial/error to reach a B+. It has come to my attention by many people that I must get reconnected if I want to build an audience and begin to "brand" myself.  While I could write and write for days that doesn't mean that anyone has the desire to read all of it, but most importantly that doesn't mean people have the TIME. Everything is about utilizing those seconds and minutes we have and I would like to keep writing, of course, but also respect people's time and follow trend for people's interests. It's a goal to start accommodating my readers, friends, travelers, family members, acquaintances and hopefully making it more user friendly for them.

As my friend said, "we are in a visual era" and at this stage in my life I'm also in a visual era. I have realized that a majority of people cannot understand what I do because they can't see it! Words just aren't enough to cover it as visual covers it all with one video.

I hope you can stay tuned for what is ahead as it will be very entertaining and fun to watch and comment on my videos, which will include adventures, live interviews with locals, religious figures, anyone and everyone I believe deserves acknowledgement.

I always say that what happens when I'm abroad is "indescribable." Nothing will ever be 100 percent translated, especially with the spiritual component that just beautifully unveils at moments of wonder.

Although, It's time to try a new approach to things and I hope this can help people have a voice, build awareness, comparison between cultures, breaking barriers/stereotypes, addressing fear, sparking curiosity, and just smiling and laughing with my moments of entertainment.

                                             Stay tuned!

PictureThis photo is from the Wordpress of Dr. Taylor. It is a beautiful representation of the Left and Right Brain

Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor has one of the most famous ted talks:
http://www.ted.com/talks/jill_bolte_taylor_s_powerful_stroke_of_insight?language=en

Found on:
www.ted.com

She is a researcher of the Brain at Harvard University who shares her personal story and education with the brain.  When you watch her video, your mind is transported to thinking about your brain and how it functions. Even if you don't have interest in the learning all the details about the brain, she makes you interested for twenty minutes to an hour.
Dr. Jill had been studying the brain as a passion and career.  She especially was interested in studying Schizophrenia as her brother is diagnosed. It was her own stroke that changed her life at age 37  that resulted in having to relearn everything she knew i.e. how to write, read, speak, eat, talk, and walk.  She called herself "an infant in a woman's body." It took her approximately 7 YEARS for her brain to recover back to it's normal state.
When you can study the brain and then sit and analyze, experience, observe your brain fall apart-it turns out to be a fascinating experience of learning and as Jill titled her book "A Stroke of Insight."

At NAMI, Jill briefly shared her incident and passionately moved onto the brain. The Amygdala vs. the Hippocampus, Right Brain vs. Left Brain, Addiction, Neurocircuitry, and various feeling states/messages sent to the brain.

An important overview of the brain from Dr. Jill:
Left Brain                                                         Right Brain
Serial Processor                                              Parallel Processor
Black Vs. White                                                Nonverbal
Thinks in Language/Details                            Thinks in Pictures
Competetive                                                     Present Moment
Confrontational                                                Hollistic thinking
Sense of Urgency                                            Compassionate
Critical analysis                                               Non-confrontational
Right vs. Wrong                                                Contentment/Energy in Flow

Do you feel more connected to one side over another? Or Both?
Dr. Jill says, "The left brain is dominating society. We need more right brain!"
Teenage behavior expected: No Frontal Lobe-Can't plan ahead-High Impulse Control, and Do not Understand Consequences. Brain Not Fully Developed until Age 25

Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor is a true inspiration with an uplifting spirit and charisma towards starting life over and being insightful into the human mind and behavior. She lost it all, but it came back to her ten fold and she is using this experience to make a difference.
She is on my Top 100 and the deserves a spot on the Most Influential of Time Magazine.

I am Acceptance

The speaker, Hakeem Rahim informed us to take out our phone and tweet
#Iamacceptance. The problem is I don't have twitter and I don't know how to use a hatch tag(this should create some humor as a two year old might understand how to do it).

Hakeem Rahim is a presenter for NAMI-"Let's talk about illness."
It was his bold, confident that captivated myself and I believe the rest of the audience.
He shared his story struggling with Bipolar Disorder for fifteen years and recently coming out just two years ago. He was diagnosed while studying at Harvard, times of seeing Jesus, and having events of Mania-running around with too much energy and the ability to perform way too much in short amount of time.

GREAT POINTS OF HIS  SPEECH

Mental Health+ Tech World

The World of Technology is constantly advancing and thanks to an intelligent, passionate Karan Singh, the co-founder of www.ginger.io, we can use the smartphone(application) to improve mental health care for people living with Mental Illness and their providers.

Also, another helpful application is www.moodmatters.org

How is all of this useful?
A patient cannot always follow up on their symptoms with their clinician. It may take a week or a month until their next appointment, but in reality a person should be self-managing their symptoms. This application allows a person to identify with their symptoms and learn about useful strategies to feel better-depression, anxiety, mood disorders? Use this application or recommend it to a friend.

With technology sadly ruling the world, having an application to address symptoms is a good idea. My ultimate fear is that this can or will replace the interpersonal interaction-this is actually my worst nightmare.  We can utilize technology for self-management, but it cannot replace time with clinicians and utilization of other tools to cope with illness.

DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WITH AN ILLNESS WHETHER MILD TO SEVERE WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS APPLICATION? FEEL FREE TO SHARE ABOUT IT

Books Vs. Technology

6/10/2015

At the Lit conference, we had a great conversation about one of the most controversial topics in my vocabulary: technology...and how it impacts the publishing industry. Regina Taylor, a Golden Globe actress and playwright, shared her love for books...real books...old books...the smell... the cover... the broken binding. She loves them all and does not discriminate from shape, size, or color. Every book has it's beauty.
As a writer and reader, she watched as book stores began to close, publishing agencies went out of business, and the world of books and publishing was forever changing.

Those glory days of just going to the library, browsing through the aisles, inhaling the smell of books are now being replaced with Kindles, Ipads, and Samsung tablets.  Tradition replaced with technology and the traditional publishing industry at a loss.  It is now harder for new authors to get published because publishers want to know the book is going to sell otherwise many can't afford to take the chance. Also, the author needs to have a good following on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. It seems ridiculous to people like me, but that is the world we are evolving into... cyber fame.
When Regina spoke about these topics, she presented as more on the traditional side, but the panelists and herself knew that one has to conform to these norms. It may not be a whole life on Twitter, but for book promotion and connecting with readers-it may just be a helpful tool.

It is a "Catch 22" because it may limit the traditional publishers, but there are options to self publish, Amazon, E-book, or even Blog a Book. The doors have opened for writers to have different options. A person may feel more comfortable doing an E-book than going down the traditional publishing route. A writers personality, budget, comfort, and time can all play a role in the decision making process. With all these publishing options, the competition of selling may increase as everyone has an opportunity. But everyone deserves an opportunity. What do you think?

As for myself, it's controversial because my first thought is the children. When I am traveling and I visit schools, internet cafes, homes, stores, restaurants-my eyes are constantly viewing the opposite of what they want to passionately see. I want to see children reading books, reading the backs of items in a store/family business, children speaking with tourists at each opportunity, collaborative classrooms with passionate teachers, and family dynamic focused on education.  It's quite an ideal vision, but it is possible and education will improve in underprivileged countries.

But will it improve with technology? Will it improve when I travel and I see 95 percent of children on facebook or youtube not engaging in any kind of learning. Will it improve when I am sitting on a train seeing everyone stare down at their phone kids, adults, mothers, working class, and men. Is this right for our children of the world and education and is this right for the industry of books and publishing?

With my vision distorted by technology, I have disappeared from facebook for three years and social networking is not in my time schedule nor does it fit my interests. Although, as a few of the panelists(authors, book critics, and readers) mentioned, it's a social trend that we can't just ignore otherwise....we will be left behind.  Just like lovely Regina, I'm in love with books and yes I still order hardcover books on Amazon. Never read an e-book, but doesn't anyone get tired of staring at screens? That is my thought process as I am always on the computer or researching/writing something on my phone.

As a writer who has interest in turning into an author, I am told that social networking is a piece of publishing, but not a requirement for every publisher. I am also told, "Priscilla you need to get in the game." The thing with entering into cyberspace is that it is a insincere space that does not promote true interpersonal interaction. It is not beneficial to human behavior and I witness it's negative presence around the globe. It can be educational, but what percent is using it for those purposes?

The main point I would like to drive home is that technology is a preference and I believe I can become an Author without conforming to social norms. It's truly about advocacy for people and believing in their abilities to communicate without technology. When I gave up social networking, I did it for a reason and I want to keep reminding myself of humanity and what it stands for in my theory and life defined. Technology will consume one and continue to decrease our interpersonal interaction. In ten years, what will be left?

                              QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS!

Only request is to be respectful of my writing, experiences, thoughts, theories, and beliefs. Those who also provide feedback and participate should receive respect as well with judgment at a minimal.   I am excited to finally connect with many friends in this space from United States and all over the world.
It's my hope that this blog will not just be about my life, but it will make you think about your-lifestyle, relationships, spirituality, work, children/family, and purpose.  Any awareness into how we think, feel, and behave is a step in the right direction.

It is with YOUR feedback that I can improve the content of my blog. As mentioned, I want YOU to be the focus of my writing. I want to write on topics that are thought provoking and interesting.  My purpose gives me satisfaction helping others, inspiring, answering questions, hearing stories, addressing difficulties/challenges/obstacles, and assisting those encountering Mental Health issues. People have blogs for different purposes and mine is to share my life knowledge and experiences while being a support to those who need guidance or have a desire to learn.

While computers and technology are not
my strengths, I will try my best to make it interactive and not all text. I know that is very boring and the attention span is not happy. As time goes by, there will be more You tube videos of my speaking and travels.

Of course, there are a million blogs to read, but I hope you find mine to be......
