God and the Green Light

This morning I was getting ready for church... I made my bed and was organizing my room a bit. When I went to place a book on my book shelf, a sheet of paper came down from my top shelf. It fell flat on the ground with the backside up. I turned it over and it was pure Japanese writing. I smiled big as I remembered exactly where it came from... A lovely Japanese artist from Vancouver, Canada. I had stopped in his gallery and we had a nice chat about Japan. He said, "I would like to make something for you Priscilla." I sat and watched as he started writing in Japanese on a piece of paper. After he was finished, it looked like a piece of art work. When I asked him what is said, he said it means "I wish a life of peace and prosperity and I hope that you come to visit Japan one day." I told him I would definitely be visiting Japan because it was a beautiful country at the top of my bucket list.
Now fast forward a couple hours after church when I stopped by Panera cafe to have a coffee. There was a large group of Japanese people having a family gathering. There was a mother and father with their 5 or 6 year old daughter, a few older gentlemen, and a few ladies. They were all sitting around smiling and speaking in Japanese. When they left one another, they bowed towards one another in such a lovely, formal manner. They cleaned up their tables and reorganized the chairs back to perfect position.
There I sat smiling thinking, "Here I come Japan...here I come."
It's been for many years I have had a strong admiration towards the Japanese culture and when I would see Japanese people my heart would fill with pure joy.  I know that I wanted to go to Japan, but I wasn't sure when I would go..
When would be the right timing and how would I know?
The Japanese painting I completely forgot I had in my room and the encounter with the Japanese group witnessing their lovely behavior and kindness. Was this a sign?
Yes, I believe it was a sign and it was God giving me the green light.

How do we tune into God's signs?
We open our eyes, our ears, our heart, and our mind to what is surrounding us in nature and our environment. What are we seeing and feeling around us that is giving us a push in a certain direction. It may be evident as day and it might be as dark as night. Some signs are clear and placed right in front of us and others(the ones I find the most beautiful) are those signs you have to have heightened awareness and really tune in to see, hear, or feel.
God wants to communicated with you. He wants you to know he has your back. He's looking out for your best interests.  An example, you're not sure if your son should attend a specific Catholic school.  You have a great rapport with the school director. You meet a parent at the grocery store whose daughter attends the school. You go to church and the pastor tells you he used to go that school when he was a young child.  You have all these great connections with this school. God is giving you the green light for your child to attend this school.  It's in your fate and it's meant to be.

Sometimes we don't want to see the signs that God gives us, but we have to have an awareness into what is being presented to us in our lives.  We have to know that God is giving us guidance and direction in our lives. He knows what is best for us and wants us to make our best decisions.  When you have doubt or have lost hope, God wants to show you the way to take and encourage you to have faith in your decisions. Let God give you the green light and you'll be living your best life.

It's Just Different.....

12/27/2015

It has just been different...The past few years....Christmas just changed.
It didn't happen intentionally rather it happened with a growth of self through experience, travel, people, moments, and a beautiful relationship with up above bursting with joy. An awareness into a day that has nothing to do with the four letter word....."gift."

It was so exciting years going to my Grandma's house for Christmas and anxiously waiting til the morning to open up beautifully wrapped boxes. Wrapped in red, green, blue, and white with reindeers, Santa Claus, snowmen, snow flakes, red bows, and ribbon. The curiosity of what would be in that box-something of need or something of want.  As a child, who really wanted something of "want"-the toys, the dolls, the jewelry-it felt like Christmas receiving gifts. What would Christmas even be without gifts?

As you get older, the gifts still have a bold presence for Christmas. It's important to buy for children, but adults want that Ipad just as much as children. People are in stores fighting over sales on an Xbox rather than Christmas caroling or standing in church. The gift has dominated the meaning of Christmas and without a religious connection to Christmas-it probably will continue to dominate. It's become overwhelming to me as a religious person who identifies what she needs and what she wants very clearly.  This does not mean I don't engage in materialism, but as addressed in many of my blog posts- I know when to disconnect and connect with what I want.

What happened for me is that the needs dominated and opening up a gift became less important overtime because I knew that I don't need gifts.  Gifts come and go everyday. I see people in unfortunate situations who could use hundreds of gifts-gifts I can't provide them.  Many who are happy just the way they are, my Simply Happy people around the world who live with their basic needs and don't require gifts to make them happy. They may or may not be religious and many are in love with life without materialistic means.

For me, these people are contagious to my spirit. They make me grow and learn about myself-connect me to God, and make me believe in true humanity. Many times traveling I have bought these important gifts for people and they WILL NOT ACCEPT MY GIFTS.  Their character and spirit is so beautiful that they can't accept gifts because they feel it's not right. It's not acceptable to accept something that is not theirs and it could be a toy or something they even need, food-they decline.  These people decline my gifts and it appears they are lacking so many.

How can I accept gifts at Christmas with all that I have? Some people may think "Oh look at Priscilla holier than now." It's not stepping on a holy pedestal trying to present myself in a certain manner to others or even a decision. It's an internal feeling of discomfort and guilt. Opening up a gift is conforming to a societal norm that Christmas is about materialism and it's something I can't justify in my belief system.

For instance, the previous year I bought my Mom an overload of gifts maybe 15 or so to give to her as much as I could. What I want to do and am quite short of providing.  It was the very least I felt I could do. Gifts aren't very important to her either, but watching her face light up makes me keep giving. To know that people feel happiness and contentment with that gift-it is worth "giving."

To be positive, people do give because that face of pure joy is priceless, especially when it's seen on a child, but if people did more giving and less receiving they may feel that same way, "Do I really need this watch when I have five?"
The beauty of gifts is definitely the giving. I remember last year I went above and beyond for ministry, baking, cards, parties, gifts, and felt so good with giving. It's quite a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment when you are able to give and make people feel good especially with a spiritual component attached.

This year was interesting opening the gifts as I literally looked miserable opening the few gifts I was given. I told my Mom that I wanted one thing to open on Christmas Day, but I kept delaying on opening it. It was a scarf and another gift was a blanket-things I need-not so bad. Still, there was a lack of motivation and meaning to even open the few gifts received. But watching her open my gifts made my face fill with such joy.  It was the joy I see with "giving" whether it's a gift, a smile, a high five, or help with homework-giving is worth it....

Unfortunately, Priscilla can't engage in the American version of Christmas much anymore. It's just not purposeful with her being that God created. Priscilla doesn't look forward to the decorated, pretty boxes. She thanks the Lord for her natural gifts with people and simply being alive among life's beauty and challenges.

This is not a post to make people feel bad rather it's a post to help people understand me a bit more and to influence people to think about the meaning of the word
gift.
How does a gift make you feel?

How many of your gifts are meeting your needs vs. your wants?
What purpose is the gift serving and is this something you are actively going to use?
Are you engaging in materialism and need a break?
Are you a giver?
Do you feel thankful, blessed?

Think a bit about the Simply Happy around the world and how they respond to gifts with the little they have. It's incredible to know that people are just thankful and blessed everyday with five percent of what we have......  PCR

Our ministry had it's annual spelling bee where children from each grade level compete spelling words from the Bible.
Words cannot describe how proud I am of these children and youth from the ministry of my good friend and mentor Dr. Paul. They are kind, polite, intelligent, witty, caring, fun, curious, lively, enthusiastic and they are true blessings to this world.
These children and their loving families are headed in the right direction with God by their side. They have such potential that the world is their runway.  They will thrive with their families incredible love and support. They will be leaders living in their purpose and bringing out the brightest colors in a world turned dull. J'adore!!!

Indian Independence day(celebrating the nation's independence from the British Empire on 15 of August 1947) is quite a  day for my fellow Indians with lots of cultural festivities.

Our ministry of Indian Christian Children, Youth, and Families had our own float for the Devon Avenue Indian Independence parade. Devon Avenue is the "Little India" of Chicago kind of like the Taylor Street for "Little Italy."

Arriving early, I was on the hunt for our float #17 walking back and forth next to 25 floats. It was a mystery as to the location of our float and I sat watching everyone set up their sound system and decorations. After a search for the driver, we located our float just in time for festivities.
We had our usual Indian families(parents of kids and youth), family members, Pastors, and the R and R Ministry leaders(superman and superwoman).

It was quite interesting trying to get Indians to all sit on the float in a timely manner. Let's just say that Indians, especially those who are older, can move a bit slower and are slow on the listening.  Unfortunately, our driver was not very patient or culturally competent for that matter. When he was ready to move, he was ready to move with people on or off the float. It was entertaining for the youth trying to run and catch up, but not the safest as well as the space on the float...There was barely space for a child to sit down. It was authentic with the crowded float and the 95 degree weather. I just so happened to be running around the float taking floats, keeping banners up, adjusting speakers-I'm just fine the heat doesn't bother Priscilla.

After the event, I had mild raccoon eyes and felt ill from simply drinking a hot bottle of Smart water.

Although, important to Praise the Lord for the weather because it was planned to rain!

The kids enjoyed themselves, but the heat did get to a lot of people and our float was more the religious one with prayer and singing. The one behind us(also associated with the ministry) had the Bollywood music and Indians dancing with their traditional outfits and big smiles.  Of course, the youth wanted to have some fun coming out on a early Saturday morning-so that is what we did! We were all dancing with the spectators smiling and envying our fun time.

The Pastors are so beautiful in this ministry-it can just be witnessed for believers who appreciate the true dedication that people have to Christ.
It was a successful event full of love, joy, peace, and hope. It's was a time to Pray for India, to Pray for our country, but also pray for the success of businesses in Little India.

It's Easy to Explain Section 102F Events at Willow.

1.) Lots of People
2.) Lots of Food
3.) Lots of Entertainment

Oh and yes this is a church, but Indian Independence is a definite day to Celebrate.
A time to celebrate with 1800 people!!!! One could imagine how busy that is for all our volunteers and with it being summer we did not have as many people as usual.
These big events at church consist of me running around doing ten different things and I see people for a few minutes and am lucky if I see them again before the event ends. I have no complaints as I enjoy running around and doing my best for my fellow Indians. It's always so heart warming to smile and connect with them, shake hands, give hugs, and give genuine acknowledgement between beings. It's great seeing familiar faces and learning about what they have been up to as well as their church attendance. Not everyone attends the big massive church because they prefer their own temples or smaller, more intimate churches-can't say I blame them. Willow Creek is great, but their level of commercial and constantly becoming "bigger and better" is a whole other post-reminds me to do that....

While we usually have the Bollywood dancing, the spiritual messages from our Indian-Christian leaders-our leader of the event decided to do something fun with the kids. Usually they have face painting, clowns, and bouncy houses. This time they had their own fashion show for their adorable outfits. Seriously, the kids look absolutely adorable at these events and why not give an award for the cutest kid? I ended up being the Pagent girl to prepare the kids for their runway appearance. It' like the Runway with their pep talk before they head out, "Smile, look at the cameras, turn, dance, twirl."
There literally were a dozen cameras in front of the stage and even two year olds were confidently coming out on their own. Oh what those cameras can do!
My friend had to be the one to decide and she approached me when I got off stage, "How can I decide, Priscilla?" "It' not fair."
Well, life isn't fair and most kids just loved the attention and if they actually could comprehend not winning-it's a learning lesson:)

Fun event, good food(Sambar and rice cakes and the sweet yellow stuff).
Wow I definitely know my Indian food right?:)
It's always great seeing my Willow friends who I adore. Next time I hope there is less people, less stress, and the mood level down a notch.

Love, Faith, and Charity

8/12/2015

Should Someone Beg Forgiveness for harboring an impossible love?
Because God's love of us is also impossible. It's never requited at the time and yet he continues to love us. He loved us so much that He sent His only son to explain how Love is the force that moves the sun and all the stars. In one of his letters to the Corinthians(which we were made to learn by heart). Paul says:

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a thinking cymbal.

And we all know why. We often hear what seem to be great ideas to transform the world, but they are words spoken without feeling, empty of Love. However logical and intelligent the might be, they don't touch us.

Paul compares Love with Prophecy, with knowledge of the Mysteries, and with Faith and Charity.

Why is Love More Important than faith?

Because Faith is merely the road that leads us to the Greater Love.

Why is Love more Important than charity?

Because Charity is only one of the manifestations of Love. And the whole is always more important than the part. And Charity is also only one of the many roads that Love uses to bring closer to his fellow man.

And we all know that there is a lot of Charity out there without Love.
Whenever I interview artists, politicians, social workers, or doctors, students. I am always asking "What is your objective or goal?" Some say: to start a family. Others say to become accomplished in my career. But when I probe deeper and ask again the automatic response is: to make the world a better place.
Those who work for the good of humanity must have love in their hearts. There is nothing more important we can give than the Love reflected in our own lives.

In the letter to the Corinthians, Paul tells us, in three short lines, that Love is made of many elements, like light. We learn at school that if we pick up a prism and allow a ray of light to pass through, that ray will divide into seven colors, those of the rainbow.

Paul shows us the rainbow of Love just as a prism reveals to us the rainbow of light.

And what are those elements? They are virtues we hear about every day and that we can practice in every moment.

Patience: Love is Patient
Kindness:....and Kind
Generosity: Love does not envy...
Humility:.....or boast; it is not arrogant
Courtesy:....or rude
Unselfishness: It does not insist on it's own way
Good temper: It is not irritable...or resentful
Sincerity: It does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth

Thousands of "Great Lakes Region" and Chicago People to come together for a Reinhard Bonnke Gospel CrusadeChicago and the Great Lakes Region (June 26th, and 27th 2015)—Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke and his ministry, Christ for All Nations (CfaN), are readying to receive thousands of Chicago and the Great Lakes guests at the upcoming Gospel Crusade.  The live event will be held in Chicago, at the ALLSTATE ARENA, located at 6920N Mannheim Rd, Rosemont, IL, 60018 on Friday, June 26th at 7 PM and beginning at 6 PM Saturday the 27th.  Chicago is the fifth host city for the U.S. Gospel Crusade tour. The Christian event is free to attend and is open to persons of all denominations on a first-come, first-served basis.  Online registration is encouraged but not mandatory.

The Chicago Crusade will follow on the heels of the Houston, TX Crusade where more than 27,000 gathered over two nights.  Christ for all Nations is expecting the Allstate Arena to be packed to capacity with people from all walks of life.   CfaN has had teams on the ground in the Great Lakes Region for a few months now and have had a tremendous response from the churches coming together to see this event be a success.

Many denominations of churches make up the 400 churches in Chicago and Great Lakes Region that have joined the fast-growing roster of churches registered to participate in the Gospel Crusade.

In more than 50 years in ministry, Evangelist Bonnke is best known for Great Gospel Crusades across the continent of Africa. Born in Germany, God placed upon his heart to minister throughout Africa. He dedicated his life to hold open-air Gospel campaigns across the Continent with as many as 1.6 million people in attendance at a single meeting.  In 40 years of ministry, CfaN has recorded more than 73 million documented decisions to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Explaining the reason to bring the Gospel Crusade to the United States, Bonnke stated, “America needs the Gospel like never before. Despite years of sharing God’s saving message abroad, I believe God is now calling me to turn my ministry inward to help America find renewal and revival.” Bonnke recently became a U.S. citizen. “My work in Africa was paid for mostly by American Christians, and I am so thankful for their giving hearts,” said Bonnke. “But God spoke to me and said, ‘I did not send you to America for the country to just be the offering plate for Africa. I sent you to America for the sake of Americans.” “We are winning millions to Christ, one soul at a time” says Bonnke “Every single, solitary soul is precious.”

CfaN will not receive an offering at the Chicago Gospel Crusade and all new persons who receive Christ at the Gospel Crusades are plugged into a local participating church so they can be discipled and grow in their walk with the Lord.

Attendees can anticipate two days of powerful messages leading up to the transformative Gospel by Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke, as well as praise and worship, healing and thousands making salvation decisions. The Gospel Crusade features performances by top Christian worship band Planetshakers and worship leader Ingrid Rosario.

Minnesota and Inspiration

On Saturday morning, my mother and I decided to take a drive...a six hour drive to Minneapolis, Minnesota. We were cruising along laughing and singing with the windows open and wind through our hair. We made a stop for gas and bought some cookies from a nice Amish man. He had his buggy behind him and happily told us about his family. His daughter and mother stay home and do all the baking. They rarely leave the house except sometimes they take the buggy to Wal-mart as a family outing-quite interesting for us to hear...And then we continued on our journey towards inspiration.

As we drove, we ate one cookie, two, three, and before you know it the whole bag of 10 Oatmeal Raisin cookies were gone. Chain grocery stores and Wal-mart could not compare to the love and care in each bite of these cookies-delicious!

When we arrived in Minnesota to our adorable hotel-the hotel I spent hours looking for as I wanted it to be charming, comfortable, well located, and always with the best customer service. It happened to be all those things and more!

There were only a few hours before THE event. Each hour passed and grew closer and closer to the inspirational being that is currently a tremendous support and positive influence in my life.....

Global Leadership Summit

Global Leadership Summit
Picture
On Saturday morning in Park Ridge, IL some beautiful minds gathered to discuss the Global Leadership Summit. How to get the Indian population attending church and training Pastors to become better leaders. It was a privilege to be around men with such passion, purpose, commitment, and years of thirty to fifty years of experience. Some I had previously met and I was aware of their extensive ministry work in Chicago and India.

t, therefore, I knew about their excellence. Most were Pastors and leading
their own ministry-running over one hundred ministries, starting numerous programs, traveling all over India to serve and preach. These are moments that I live for-to be able to learn from the older, male(preference) adult who has a significant amount of knowledge through experience to share.
As we collaborated on how leadership can be improved-it was clear that I still had a bit to learn about leadership myself. Leadership takes persistence, an interpersonal approach to connecting and providing information with compassion. A Pastor has a busy schedule and is accustomed to doing things the way they know. Coming into a church and trying to make changes requires treading lightly and praising for accomplishments of ministry.  People need to connect on that Interpersonal level especially those of the Indian community at Willow. They just need a little bit of true connection and caring to get them showing up three times a month rather than once every two months.
To hear the wisdom of these men made me proud to be in their presence. These meetings will continue this summer and the......

Joel Osteen- An Inspiration

6/5/2015

Picture
When I came back from Morocco, I was having a beautiful spiritually inclined discussion with my friend. She was not the type to go to church, but she did have her own personal relationship with God. Although, she had some real insight on how to handle my problems and I wondered, "Where is all this coming from?"

She asked, "Do you ever watch Joel Osteen?"

In my head, I was thinking Is she talking about that commercial pastor on TV all the time?
I replied, "No."

She said, "You need to start watching him-he will really change your life.

Unfortunately, I never took her advice because I also believed in my own personal relationship, prayer, church ministry, and listening to my Pastor from
www.willowcreek.org

Bill Hybels. He always got me through the challenging times and he was a positive inspiration.  When I thought about Joel Osteen, I just thought "Commercial," which in my mind meant "Not Interested. Next."

A couple years later, I learned that this was far from the truth and I had been missing out on some incredible, inspiring, heartfelt, spiritually guided sermons.  Around November 2014, I decided to start watching Joel Osteen. I don't even remember Why or How, but that is irrelevant because I am here Now as a dedicated follower of Joel Osteen-his sermons, books, events, and more. He has had a powerful role in my consciousness, which as a psychoanalyst I can confidently say....That is not an easy task.

There is a reason because he is watched all over the world and has the largest attendance in his church-not because he is commercial rather he is authentic and a man of God. His passion, sincerity, loyalty, and love for people pours straight out of his heart.  It's such a positive addition that I would like to share.

Is this a post that is meant to convince me to support and/or watch Joel Osteen?

I ask this question because I never want people to think that I am a Christian who is trying to engage in "religious persuasion." That is not the place I come from with my work, writing, and interaction with people. It's always in my best interests to share my knowledge, experiences, beliefs, theories, ideas, etc. with others. I have no intention on making anyone uncomfortable, but that does not mean I don't encourage you to try watching a video one time.

As I tell people, if someone can connect to his messages and gains something positive then why not just try it out. Someone who has the motto "Believe In Your Purpose." It would not make sense to not share someone that is moving me closer to my own purpose. I want the best for YOU and trying out a video is a great way to see if you feel a connection. It may take a couple tries and you could love it or feel like it's not for you. Either is just fine!

What Do You Gain from His Sermons?

Joel Osteen is one of the best pastors not because he has a stadium full of people, but he is a Realist. He speaks in a manner that can relate to everyone in their everyday life and this continues through almost every sermon.

It's not in his interest, but that of the people to inspire them to work past negativity, loss, bad breaks, disability, weaknesses, and unfortunate circumstances. He gives people a sense of hope and his emotion is heartfelt and connected to myself and others.

As I mentioned previously, the consciousness. This is a difficult task, but I believe that is why people keep on coming back. He is making a person more conscious of their decisions, feelings, thoughts, and honoring God in the process. People need to repetitively hear similar things in speech to have it build into their thought process.

" I have been waiting for an hour and this person just hung up the phone."

I could get upset or I could say, "That person is having a bad day and I'm not going to let it effect me."

It is instances like these where Joel enters into my mind and the minds of millions. This is an incredible gift that I am aspiring to do in my own work each and every session I have.

This man has done it and God Bless Him for that Positive Change on the World!

I'm not in the Texas area to attend?

Unfortunately, I have never had the chance to be in the presence of Joel Osteen and feel that energy live, but his messages are just as good online. He is a fantastic speaker and you can feel his passion right through the screen.

I Don't Understand Christianity and the Bible

That is perfectly fine. Everyone starts somewhere and if you are going to start-Joel could
be a good place to start. When we think about a Pastor, it's common to think about the traditional components and how you are sitting there in your seat waiting for it to end. This is not by any means insulting the bible or incredibly beautiful Pastors, but purely indicating that everyone has a different preference for their church and pastor. It's completely understandable and recommended to find the best fit for YOU.

But Joel incorporates scripture in a clear way you can understand. It's actually good for a beginning because something may spark your interest and you may want to read about it.

With Joel, I think about my real life and how he is impacting my decisions, ideas, insecurities, doubts, fears, passion-his intent is to empower you to think about the real life you live and how you can change.  Have faith in yourself and him!

I Don't Have Time to Watch Him

Well, we all prioritize our religion in different ways and everyone has their own lifestyle. What is great about Joel is you can watch him anywhere. You can listen to him in the car, watch him at the gym(I enjoy this the most), watch him on TV, or watch a message while waiting for your laundry to finish. There is always that pocket of time that can be designated into something positive. His messages are usually 28-34 minutes, which is a lunch break, a gym time, breakfast, before going to sleep, during commericials on TV, while you are on facebook, twitter, instagram or browsing the web- FIND YOUR POCKET OF TIME. There are many more that are fantastic and it's up to YOU to pick one that sparks your interest, and relates to YOUR life, challenges, opportunity, passion, family etc.

Going forward you may see some references to Joel Osteen as he does have a positive influence on my spirit. I have all my own theories, ideas, and beliefs, but he does confirm many of them and provides a cleaner path for me and those around me.
